SC Students, Employees & Leaders Experience Drifting

A group of South Carolina high school students, plant employees and community leaders got the rare experience of riding shotgun with professional drift drivers at the Giti Tire plant as part of a community event hosted by Giti Tire.

It was a unique opportunity for students in the Chester County Career Center’s Automotive Technology Program to see the state-of-the-art facility and learn more about the tire manufacturing process firsthand. They also got to meet Formula DRIFT drivers and ride along with the drivers on a course set up outside the plant. The event also played an instrumental role in further enhancing pride among plant employees for their dedication in producing world-class, American-made passenger and light truck tires in Richburg.

Giti Supports World Homeless Drive

One in every 588 Americans is facing homelessness. With winter approaching, Giti’s Engagement Committee partnered with United Way-Chester & Lancaster, GRASP, Fort Lawn Community Center, Christ Central Ministry and Chester Center of Hope in recognition of World Homeless Day on Oct. 10.

The organizations collected coats, hats, gloves and new/gently used warm clothing for all ages/both genders, as well as sleeping bags and blankets. Our goal is to provide an important resource for those experiencing homelessness – clean, fresh clothing and extra layers for the cold months ahead. We believe in doing our part to help the community and be a blessing to others.

Giti Richburg Completes First 2021 Career Fair

Ray Silinski, Latoya Stewart, and Alex Rankin represented Giti Tire at the job fair at the Gateway Conference Center in Richburg, SC, hosted  by the Chester Economic Development Board and SC works. Over 150 job seekers were in attendance for the event, and more than 100 of them stopped by our table. We were able to speak to job seekers about the company, what we do, and the open positions that are currently available. As we only accept electronic applications, we urged them to visit our website to apply online.

Over 20 candidates were set up for interviews for the next day, while roughly 10 more were scheduled for interviews at a later time. It was a very successful job fair and we hope to have hired over 25 people from the job fair for positions such as production, maintenance, and quality assurance roles. The fair helped us find a number of qualified candidates that were actively seeking work, and we look forward to attending the next job fair that SC works and/or the Chester Economic Development Board hosts.

Easter Basket Competition

Giti partnered with the White Oak Senior Living Facility in Lancaster, SC for a “Build-a-Basket” competition. We reached out to White Oak to acquire a list of acceptable donation items, then provided each Giti department with a basket they could decorate and fill with goodies. Each basket was judged by the Engagement Committee for a trophy. Some departments also included extra baskets that were purchased by employees. The winning department was the Security Department.

In total, Giti donated 30 baskets to the facility. Administrator Ryan Heitkamp was on site for the delivery of the baskets by Human Resources Manager Tiffany Wynn. He graciously accepted them with the help of a few other employees.

“This is amazing! The residents are going to love these!” he said. “The fact that they are filled with items the residents can use daily makes this so much more special.”

Giti Sponsors Chester Families for Christmas

Recent Christmases have been different for everyone. With the current COVID-19 pandemic situation still in place, a lot of families had to make different arrangements to see each other during the holidays. Then there were those families who were unable to do anything due to job loss or other unexpected life occurrences, and Chester County, SC was no exception. With a large percentage of families under the national household income average, and COVID rates rising, the need for help is obvious. That’s where the Giti Tire Engagement Committee stepped in.

The Committee saw the need within our community and  ran a newspaper ad asking for community members to nominate a family who was either affected by the pandemic or another sudden unexpected life change. The results were amazing! We received over 13 nominations. The stories touched all on an emotional level, and seven families were chosen.

The families were  invited to the Richburg plant to meet with  Engagement Committee members and Giti North America CEO Phang Wai Yeen. They were each given approximately $700 to use for household goods, food, Christmas gifts, or whatever they needed most. Each family was overjoyed with the kindness shown to them. Mr. Phang was also overjoyed at being given the opportunity to help the community which we call home. We look forward to a brighter year and stand ready to continue helping families in need in the Chester community.
