2018 was another great run for 86 Cup. The name “86” refers to the iconic front-engine rear-wheel drive sports coupé and hatchback platform developed by Toyota so many years ago, and is now synonymous with both the Toyota GT86 (formerly Scion FR-S) and Subaru BRZ.
GT Radial has been the title sponsor of the Southern California 86 Cup and Northern California 86 DRIVE Challenge series for the last four years. 86 Cup began in Southern California in 2013 and continues to expand across the country with the Northeast and the Midwest 86 Cup Series.
In addition to the continued support of those two California regions, GT Radial also became a sponsor for the Northeast and Midwest 86 Cup Series last year. Along with a generous tire contingency program in all of the regions for participants that compete on Champiro SX2 or Champiro HPYs, there are large cash prizes for championship winners at the end of the year for the Southern and Northern California regions.
The newly sponsored Northeast and Midwest regions held their final events in October while the Northern and Southern California regions had their season finale’s last December. Both NorCal and SoCal regions had an award celebration where the top three drivers in various classes were handed their well-deserved championship trophies and winnings.
GT Radial is giving these drivers full support for their passion for racing. In return, they have been great ambassadors, promoting and using GT Radial tires in their races and everyday driving.
